The RISS community is built around a simple belief: adults thrive when expectations are clear, consistent, and reasonable. We are not interested in creating an institutional environment filled with endless regulations, complicated disciplinary systems, or rules for the sake of having rules. Instead, we focus on a limited number of standards that help maintain a safe, respectful, and productive community for everyone who lives, works, volunteers, and visits here.

Our resident standards are divided into three categories: Non-Negotiables, Rules, and Expectations. Each serves a different purpose and carries different consequences.

Non-Negotiables are behaviors that threaten the safety, stability, or integrity of the community. These are clear boundaries that cannot be crossed.

Rules address day-to-day conduct and community responsibilities. They are designed to support a functional living environment and ensure that residents can successfully share a community with one another.

Expectations define the culture of the campus. They reflect our belief that growth requires more than simply avoiding negative behavior. Residents are expected to actively engage in community life, personal development, volunteer service, employment, education, and self-improvement.

Together, these standards create an environment that balances personal freedom with personal responsibility. They are not intended to control people. They exist to help maintain a safe, stable, respectful, and productive community for everyone who lives, works, volunteers, and visits the campus.
