Most discussions about reentry focus on what returning citizens need from the community. Housing. Employment. Transportation. Healthcare. Those needs are important, and addressing them is a critical part of successful reintegration.
But community is not a one-way relationship.
At RISS, we believe residents should also have opportunities to give back. Not because they are required to, but because contributing to something larger than ourselves is part of being a member of any healthy community.
Through a variety of charitable giving initiatives, residents help support local organizations, families, youth programs, and community needs. Some of these efforts involve direct financial contributions. Others involve donated goods, restored furniture, or collection drives that provide practical assistance to people and organizations throughout the community.
These initiatives are funded through resident fees not outside funding, allowing residents to play an active role in helping others rather than simply being recipients of assistance.
These programs reflect a simple belief: successful reentry is not only about receiving support. It is also about developing the ability and willingness to support others.
The initiatives below highlight several ways residents participate in charitable giving and community generosity.
