Residents for Community Impact
Residents for Community Impact
At RISS, community engagement is not limited to volunteer hours or public events. It also includes giving.
Residents for Community Impact is our resident charitable donation system. Each month, RISS sets aside $400 from the residential operating structure for charitable donations selected through a combination of annual commitments and resident voting.
The purpose is simple: residents rebuilding their lives should also have the opportunity to contribute to the community around them.
This is not symbolic. It is not charity theater. It is a structured way for residents to practice civic participation, collective decision-making, generosity, and public responsibility.
How the Monthly Donations Work
Each month, RISS makes:
Two $100 donations
Two $50 donations
Four $25 donations
That equals $400 per month and $4,800 per year in charitable giving.
Half of the monthly donations are committed to selected organizations for the full year. The other half are nominated and voted on by residents on a rotating monthly basis.
Annual and Monthly Giving
Each year, residents help select the organizations that will receive consistent monthly support. These annual selections create continuity and allow RISS residents to build an ongoing relationship with causes they believe matter.
Each month, residents also nominate and vote on rotating charitable recipients. This keeps the process active, participatory, and responsive to current needs in the community.
Local, State, and National Impact
The donation system is designed to support a healthy balance of impact:
Local organizations remain the priority because residents should be connected to the community where they live.
Texas-based organizations help residents recognize broader statewide needs.
National organizations allow residents to participate in larger civic and humanitarian causes.
The goal is to help residents understand that community responsibility exists at more than one level.
Resident Participation
Residents may nominate organizations for consideration. Nominations are reviewed to confirm legitimacy, basic eligibility, and alignment with RISS values.
Residents then vote on eligible organizations through the resident portal or another approved voting process.
The broader community will be able to see the impact of this process through public updates, annual reporting, and donation summaries.
Why This Matters
Many reentry models focus almost entirely on what residents need.
Housing. Employment. Transportation. Support.
Those things matter.
But RISS also asks a different question:
What do residents have to give?
Residents for Community Impact is built on the belief that people rebuilding their lives are not merely recipients of help. They are neighbors, contributors, and members of the community.
If you believe reintegration should be built intentionally, not reactively, we invite you to explore how you can help bring the RISS model to life.
