Spring
St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day provides a light, enjoyable way to introduce Irish cultural traditions.
Activities may include themed meals, music, trivia, decorations, door decorating, and simple community competitions.
Easter
Easter may be recognized through both spiritual and seasonal traditions.
Activities may include brunch, Easter baskets, an egg hunt, spring decorations, outdoor games, family participation opportunities, and voluntary faith-based observances. For some residents, these simple traditions may be the first stable holiday experiences they have had in many years.
Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and introduces residents to an important Muslim celebration centered around discipline, fasting, gratitude, prayer, family, and community.
RISS may recognize Eid through cultural education, shared food, invited speakers, and voluntary observance opportunities. Participation in religious elements is never required.
Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo provides an opportunity for cultural appreciation and historical education.
Activities may include Mexican food, music, decorations, history discussion, trivia, guest speakers, and community activities that explain the meaning of the holiday beyond the surface celebration.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day combines community gathering with remembrance.
Residents may participate in a cookout, outdoor games, music, and shared meals, but the day should also include a moment of silence, flag ceremony, historical explanation, or recognition of the military service members who died in service to the country.
If you believe reintegration should be built intentionally, not reactively, we invite you to explore how you can help bring the RISS model to life.
