From The Founder’s Desk: The Shift

I have a short one today. One of the questions I think about most is not how to get someone to use a resource. It's how to make sure the resource is there when they're finally ready.

People arrive at different places emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and practically.

Some residents will walk into the library during their first week.

Others may not enter for six months.

Some will immediately volunteer.

Others will spend months simply observing.

Some will begin teaching, mentoring, and leading surprisingly quickly.

Others will need time before they can imagine themselves in those roles.

That's normal.

The goal is not immediate participation.

The goal is readiness.

Not resident readiness.

Institutional readiness.

The responsibility of RISS is not to determine when a person's shift will occur.

Our responsibility is to make sure that when it does, the opportunities, relationships, and resources are already waiting for them.

Because transformation doesn't happen on a schedule.

But when it happens, it deserves a place to grow.
